What is World Class Drilling Process?

It is a process which applies project management techniques to drilling wells.

It engages the "Big Brain" to drill the well on paper within a structured organisation.

The big brain is all the service providers and the rig contractor along with the Operating company personnel. (This is an inclusive process with the first draft plan being shown to everyone from derrick men up through the rig hierarchy, service company hands - mud loggers, LWD engineers, wireline engineers, casing running hands, ROV engineers, Wellhead engineers, Cementing engineers .... the list goes on.

It is an attempt to apply the principles of lean manufacturing to drilling oil wells.

Why do this?

Wells are notorious for having high cost, unplanned events. In reality these are often predictable. 

By engaging everyone involved in drilling the well during the planning phase we are able to build a comprehensive risk picture. Once we have the risks outlined we can put measures in to mitigate these risks. 

Is it sensible for an Oil company Drilling engineer to tell Schlumberger what the likely problems with a wireline logging job are? - or is it more sensible for the team to ask the Schlumberger engineer what he believes the problems to be? 

If you ask in the right way he will tell you where the critical failure points of all his equipment and procedures are!

What do we get?

By doing this we can deliver best in class wells at or about the technical limit on a consistent basis.

If we say a well will cost $10 million - it will - not $15 million.
