Stavanger and the surrounding area (Rogaland) has some of the finest walking country in Norway.
This is an illustrated walk with location instructions and general advice.
Kjerag is a rocky promontory overlooking the Lysefjord in Rogaland just above Stavanger.
The walk is not as popular as the trek up to the Preikestolen further down the fjord but it is superior and well traveled by local people who want to get the best view of the Lysefjord.
The approach really requires a car.
We drove from Stavanger, via Algård, Hunnedalen and Sirdal up to the starting car park at Øygardsstølen (free parking with toilet and cafe).
The return journey was completed by taking the ferry from Lysebotn down the Lysefjorden (complete with running commentary from the captain) either getting off the ferry at Lauvvik (at the mouth of the Lysefjord) or keeping on the ferry until it reaches Stavanger (about 1 hour longer).
The walk takes 4 - 5 hours and is waymarked with painted red arrows.
10 km with 570m of ascent. Map - NORGE 1:50000 Lysekammen 1313 II
