AMPHIBOLITE SHEET SUITE

The amphibolite sheet suite occurs within the Tollie gneiss and is believed to represent a series of metamorphosed intrusive igneous basic sheets (Park 1970). The exposure is generally good (c.f. Tollie gneiss - exposure is directly comparable with the amphibolite sheet suite ). The sheets vary in width. Ranging between 0.5 and 40 metres, with sheets of 10 metres or more in width being shown on the map.

Exposed surfaces of the Amphibolite sheet suite are dark coloured with feldspars picking out a foliation, the surfaces of which are 1 centimetre apart (Plate 3). Fresh surfaces of the rock are green - black in colour and show a grain size varying between 0.5 and 1 millimetre. No "L" fabric could be observed in hand specimen. The mineralogy of the rock was observed to include: amphibole 60%, feldspar 30 %, biotite 5%, and quartz 5%.

Various structures are observed in the Amphibolite sheet suite and are fully described in the Structural section of the report.
